Sri Sairam College of Engineering established the Innovation Council (IC) under MHRD’s Innovation Cell, an initiative launched in November 2018, and it has been thriving since its establishment. Before the establishment of IC, we had an innovation center focusing only on innovation. As soon as we established IIC under MHRD, the primary mandate was to encourage, inspire, and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas. The Institute’s Innovation Council works towards inculcating the spirit of innovation among students and developing a start-up ecosystem. In IC, students participate in mentoring sessions, workshops, and innovative idea competitions. Since the inception of the IC, SSCE has produced and developed very promising start-up ideas. Through IIC, we have generated around 102 ideas & 45 products/prototypes during the academic year 2019-20, 156 ideas & 56 prototypes/products during 2020-21, 128 ideas & 46 prototypes/products during 2021-22, and 246 ideas & 60 prototypes/products during 2022-23. IIC has commercialized a few of the student’s products during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as Agribots, Sesame Feeling Machine, AUV, Trike, Low-Cost E-Cycle, etc. The IC, SSCE faculty members have successfully completed the Ambassador Training Programme conducted by MoE’s Innovation Cell. The innovation Ambassadors are playing a vital role in maintaining a vibrant ecosystem. During 2018-19, we received a 2-star rating. During the 2019-20 annual performance rating, we received a 5-star rating and stood as one of the top institutions across our zone. During the 2020-21 annual performance rating, we received a 4-star rating and were also shortlisted for the mentor-mentee program as a mentor institute. During the 2021-22 annual performance rating, we received a 4-star rating. We aim to improve and sustain the ecosystem, providing a platform for students and faculties to develop themselves as entrepreneurs.
