Brief description of the project:

The global rise in energy demand has resulted to the over exploitation of both renewable and non renewable energy sources. Most feasible hydroelectric power plants sites have been exploited and the current focus is on harnessing energy from small hydroelectric power plants which have low head and flow velocity rendering them unsuitable for generation. Since the demand of electricity is increasing day by day and also by keeping in mind of future smart city concept in the mind, proposal of Prime Minster of India initiated smart city concept and to support the society we are harvesting an electrical energy from the water supply pipe line without disturbing to the water flow. Here we are considered an overhead tank on larger arcade stores water for everyday use. Energy can be extracted from flowing water when it is supplied to arcade. A micro hydro turbine may be fitted in water pipe line to convert potential energy of water into electrical energy. Electrical energy generation planed for larger arcade with proposed concept and theoretical analysis is carried out and achieved electric energy generation and its estimated based on developing the prototype model by practically.

Social relevance of the project:

  • 100% source of fuel cost is zero.
  • Power generation without interrupting the flow of water in the pipe lines.
  • Water flows through the hydrodynamic turbine, generating power as the turbine spins.
  • In can applied to the following areas as follows;
    Large arcade, shopping complex, hospitals, colleges, hostels and etc…
    The electricity generated from the pipe is tapped and applied for various loads.
    It’s also suits and applicable for agriculture & industrialization.
