Sri Sairam college of engineering is introducing a B.Sc Honours course in Science and Technology from this academic year 2021-22 having the affiliation from Visvesvaraya Technological University.

With the implementation of the new National Education Policy (NEP), VTU started four-year Bachelor of Science Honours degree courses from the academic year 2021-22.

The 4-year BSc (Hons) programme will have Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) subjects. The science and engineering departments will conduct classes.
“This course will be different from those in degree colleges given the emphasis on STEM subjects. The open electives, project work and internship will be STEM-centric and from engineering background.

The open electives, project work and internship will be STEM-centric and from engineering background like Artificial Intelligence, cyber security and Internet of Things, among others. It’ll be like courses offered in the Indian Institute of Science and other premier technological institutions.

The courses would have the provision for multiple entries and multiple exits.

The courses are skill-based, choice-based and cross-disciplinary, trans-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary in nature that would provide the students the option of electives across the disciplines as per the objectives of the new NEP.

The four-year B.Sc Honors course will have the exit option at the end of every year.
“Students who want to exit at first year can avail themselves of a certificate in Science, exit at the second year will get them a diploma, exit at the third year will get them a degree and the successful completion of four years will get BSc Honours.

The Students will also get benefits like training and Job placements from the placement cell of our college.


On completion of the four-year BSC honours course, students will gain expertise over the following:

  • Calculating and examining limit and continuity along with a firm knowledge over various geometrical interpretations.
  • Understanding conceptual variations, finding eigenvalues and eigenvectors and advancement to several variables in calculus.
  • Recognizing consistent and inconsistent systems of linear equations.
  • Understanding linear and angular momentum along with moment of inertia, simple harmonic motions and gravitational laws.
  • Application of momentum in rocket propulsion, understanding moment of inertia in real life and resonance phenomena for tuning system.
  • Solving conceptual questions using the study model of atom.
  • Formulating the mechanism of organic reactions through both hemolytic and heterolytic bond breaking.
  • Understanding the function of different indicators in titration and creatively redesigning traditional experiments with a focus on the principles of green Chemistry.
  • Elucidating the architecture and functionalities of a Computer.
  • Application of programming constructs of C Language and understanding user-defined data structures like arrays and pointers in implementing solution to problems.
  • Calculating M.I of various physical dimensions.
  • Measuring Young’s Modulus and Modulus of rigidity in the elastic property of materials.
  • Ability to compute solar constant and thermal conductivity.
  • Demonstrating the use of IDE, C Compiler and rectifying the syntax and syntactic errors during programming.
  • Developing algorithms and programs using constructs of C programming language.
  • Identifying the nuances of phonetics, intonation and enhancement of pronunciation and verbal skills
  • Learning the techniques of information transfer through presentation.

BSC Honours at Sri Sairam College of Engineering is an all encompassing graduation course where each discipline is taught individually with special emphasis that includes pre-lecture and post-lecture activity, chalk and talk method, assessments, power point presentations, group assignments, seminar, semester examinations, quiz and internships. This opens a gamut of career opportunities for students which include the following:

  • Research and innovation – Being exposed to dissertations, presentations, academic activities, assignments and seminars, a student’s ability and interest to ascend in his career graph accentuates to the level of research and innovation. An area where he will not just learn but invent for the globe.
  • Civil Services – BSC Honours being a multi-disciplinary course trains the students who are planning to sit for the civil service examinations. The aspirants get to learn and master the curriculum coming under various disciplines like Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Algebra, English, Environmental Studies, Mechanics and many more. This coaches the civil service aspirants where they can do their graduation and at the same time get their civil service preparation done through the curriculum.

Studying BSC Honours with Computer Science as a vital discipline that teaches C programming language, IDE, C Compilers, Syntax and many more, a student is thoroughly trained to work as a database administrator where he can update software and merge new database systems thereby ensuring authorization for the companies.
  • Operations Technologist – The course teaches the students to calibrate computer systems which will help them analyse and ensure that the systems comply with manufacturing test requirements.
  • Architect – BSC Honours with subjects like Physics, Mechanics, Physical Chemistry, Mathematics, and Linear Algebra trains a student to draft construction plans. They learn to examine and determine if designs are complying with zoning laws and building codes. Students will emerge as professionals who can also use building information modeling software to design and create construction drawings. Being an Architect one can also use computer-aided design and drafting.
  • Industrial Designer – After completion of the course, students will be able to work with material scientists and develop concepts and designs for products to be manufactured; these products include cars, medical equipments, electronic devices and many more. With knowledge and experience one can combine practical elements with technical specifications to invent and introduce diverse products to the worldwide consumer market.
  • Market Research Analyst – Our students will have a huge chance to get selected for companies who hire market research analysts. The course will train a student to analyse the market through various scientific concepts post which they can determine a company’s best performing products and can also identify ideal markets to target.
  • Mathematician – With a thorough training on Differential Calculus, Linear Algebra, Theorems, Matrices, Cartesian curves, Polar Coordinate Systems, our students can be professionals who solve problems in various fields using mathematical principles and computational techniques. They can also design surveys and opinion polls to collect data.
  • Environmental Science and Protection Technician – Having Environmental Studies in the curriculum our students will learn to combine it with scientific principles and can work with hydrologists and protection technicians to address environmental and public health issues. They can also inspect establishments to ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
  • Analytical Chemist – The students will be taught to study matter through processing and separation. The students can work as Analytical Chemists who help physicians to diagnose diseases and provide suitable measurements.
  • Pharmacologist – With an all encompassing training on chemistry and all its types, a student will learn to understand and investigate the composition of drugs and their effect on biological systems. Being a Pharmacologist one can invent new and better medicines and can also improve the effectiveness of existing medicines.
  • Role of a Manager – Having English as a discipline, students will learn the usage and effectivity of language and communication with a detailed study on phonetics, intonation, LSRW and many more. This will give them the knowledge and exposure to work as managers in various fields which involve presentations, group meetings, communication with internal and external agencies, researching, planning and executing projects.
  • Career across the globe – Studying in a multi-disciplinary graduation programme like BSC Honours, students will be trained on a spectrum of subjects after which they can sit for the various pre-requisite examinations to join foreign universities. The students will be trained with special emphasis on English and Mathematics to help them score good band marks for exams like IELTS, GMAT, TOEFL, GATE and GRE.

The Department holds its classes in spacious classrooms and has enormous seminal halls to facilitate the learning and experimenting process. The Computer labs are well furnished with 40 computers which are updated with the latest software for students to learn and practice programming. Our campus is Wifi-enabled with un-interrupted supply of power that allows the students to use the network for their academic purposes. The college has both physical and digital library for students to get all their required books, papers and scripts required for studying.
